Spoon Care & Cleaning

TO CLEAN:

Hand wash with warm soapy water and allow time to air-dry completely before storing.

Never put in the dishwasher. Do not soak.

TO DISINFECT:

Diluted vinegar works very well to kill bacteria. Using bleach on a wooden spoon is not effective because the organic composition of wood neutralizes the disinfectant quality of bleach.

OTHER:

The wood will "lift" slightly the first few times you wash your spoons, but this can easily be removed with a fine grit sandpaper or a scouring sponge. Rub your spoons periodically with mineral oil or a beeswax compound. This will help preserve the wood and prevent cracking. Let it sit for 15-30 minutes and wipe clean. Beware of other oils (vegetable, olive, etc.) as they can turn rancid.
